Join this first-class expert panel discussion to gain deep insights into what the top international companies look for during the recruitment selection process, as well as how to develop yourself to ensure a highly successful career across the globe.

 

The panellists come from a variety of business backgrounds and will share their experience of achieving a successful global career. Networking opportunity is available where you can exchange ideas and discuss how to stay on top in your international career.

In the chair:

Sally Patterson is a Senior Coach and UK Deputy Head Programme Management of Mandarin Consulting. Sally began her journalistic career at the BBC in London after graduating from London University. She went on to work in radio and television as a journalist, broadcaster, political commentator and writer in Hong Kong, where she lived for fifteen years. She has experience in publishing, public relations and marketing. She is also a qualified TEFL teacher.

Sally has the ability to understand what companies are looking for when they interview candidates and how to get the best out of Chinese students. Her broad work experience, her multicultural background and her empathetic manner gives her excellent qualities for giving careers advice to Chinese students who aim to develop as global elites.

 

The Panellists:

David Walters

With a Masters in International Relations and being a qualified Foreign Office Chinese speaker, David lived and worked on every continent in the world, in particular for The British Embassy in Beijing, Mongolia, and in Taiwan.

David was a British career Diplomat having spent over 30 years with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Some of the official government bodies David has worked with were The United Nations, the British Council, UK Visas and Immigration, The Royal Household, MI5 and MI6, the European Union, Department for International Development and the BBC. Some of the commercial bodies were ISS Facilities Services Providers, Sheraton Hotels, Coca-Cola and AEGIS Security Services. David also worked with other Embassies and Foreign Governments around the world on a range of political, immigration, consular and management issues. David has managed budgets of millions, staff of dozens and the careers of many.

In recent years, David also provided Business Practice training to multinational corporations such as: HSBC, Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, FedEx, Warner Music, Prudential Financial, PWC and Philip Morris in Taiwan.

David was awarded Membership of the Royal Victorian Order by Her Majesty the Queen for his services in Recruitment, Training, Development, Corporate Services and Visa Services. David was also awarded the Iraq Reconstruction Service Medal for coaching and developing staff in Iraq.

 

Yan Kong

Yan, as a previous MC Alumnus, is now working for PwC as a Data Assurance Associate. Yan began her career as a Software QA/BA Engineer at CBS Interactive in China in 2012, responsible for maintaining and developing internal IT systems for utilisation by 2000+ employees across the globe. She then progressed onto her next stage of the career in Jaguar Land Rover as a Global LMS System Technician prior to joining PwC.

Yan graduated from University of Warwick with a master’s degree in Data Analytics. Her global experience and cross cultural understanding helped her to develop great insights into what it takes to achieve a successful global career and why global organisations, such as PwC and Jaguar Land Rover, are looking for global elites of tomorrow.

 

Mengying Liu

Mengying, joined Mandarin Consulting in 2018, is now working for Intel Corporation as a Data Analyst. While working for Intel Corporation, Mengying received her award, Winner of the 2018 Intel Division Award, based on the great contribution for the AWS Cloud Activity.

She began her career path as an Operation Assistant in Boardwalk SID Management Corporation in 2016 in the USA, then joined NVIDIA Joint-Lab in 2017 as a Software Engineer Intern. She is currently in her placement year as part of her Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence degree in University of Nottingham.

Her global experience in a variety of industries gave her a broad range of knowledge of the rigorous recruitment process of large corporations. Now working towards CFA, Mengying always strives for improvement and excellence. Her international career is greatly benefited with an understanding of the importance of having a global mind to success.

 

Dress Code:

Jacket and tie and tailored trousers for gentlemen and equivalent smart formal wear for ladies is required. Trainers (smart or casual) and denim are not allowed.

 

The rules of the club specify that:

  • Telephones must be off or silent
  • Photography is not permitted in any part of the club except in the private room where the event is being held

You are asked to arrive at the Club between 13.15 and 13.30 for the registration. This also ensures that you achieve the best value of the time the panellists have kindly agreed to give you.
