Julian Johnson - Coach
Julian is a senior leader with a unique blend of international business, expeditionary and life experience. He has held a variety of senior roles in the finance, energy and healthcare industries, including in management consulting, strategy and planning, organisation development, business development, securities trading and sales and strategic communications.
During the last three decades he has worked for large global brands such as Royal Dutch Shell and Mizuho based in four different continents and several countries, including the USA, the Netherlands, the UK, Qatar, Russia and China. This experience of living and working in many different cultural contexts, both corporate and national, has given him insight into the value of cultural understanding and diversity in business and life.
In addition to his business interests, Julian has been a member of a successful expedition to the North Pole and completed a circumnavigation of the world on the BT Challenge Yacht race. He knows what it takes to build a winning mentality in individuals and teams in highly pressurised environments.
Julian graduated from Durham University with a degree in Engineering, from Cambridge University with a Diploma in Computer Science and from Cranfield School of Management with an MBA. He is currently studying for a Masters in Executive Coaching at Ashridge Hult Business School.
Julian has broad experience of recruiting, managing and developing staff, which has given him a deep understanding of what global companies are looking for from candidates. Earlier in his tenure at Royal Dutch Shell he ran leadership, change and coaching programmes for graduate entry and more senior staff.
He is keen to share his varied experiences and insights with MC candidates and to help them equip themselves with the life skills and knowledge required to kick start their international careers.
