Our next “Meet the Mentors” Supper will be for a maximum of 35 members with four experienced mentors who have been involved in the Media, PR and Communication industries, on the evening of Wednesday 18th March. This is the second in a series of the ’Meet the Mentor’ Suppers, each one focusing on a specific sector.

The aim of these suppers is to ask 4 people who are experienced in defined sectors to relate their experiences to those interested in joining the same professions and to share their views and perceptions. It will be an informal and useful exchange of information and discussion which will provide advice, pointers and anecdotes.

The dinner will be in a Private Room in the elegant and comfortable London Capital Club, which is part of the Palmerston Hotel & Resorts Group, an active member company of the Hong Kong Association.

In the chair:

Carrie Waley is the CEO of Mandarin Consulting. She is a pioneer for career coaching for Chinese graduates entering international job markets. Every year, her company has helped several hundred university students and graduates to embark on their career. She is a Committee Member of the Hong Kong Society.

Mark Patterson retired from Standard Chartered Bank in 2013, having worked there since 2004. He has also worked in Hong Kong for 12 years as the CEO of Deutsche Morgan Grenfel. He is currently a Consultant in Financial Services and is also a Committee Member of the Hong Kong Society.

The Mentors:

Laurence James, Founder & CEO, Eurasia Partners

Over 20 years of media experience, mainly focused on the Asia Pacific market, which includes roles at the SCMP and the Economist in Hong Kong. His expertise includes government liaison, event sponsorship sales, publishing, advertising revenue (digital, online, broadcast and print) and thought leadership/research based pieces. He is also proficient at raising the profile of emerging market countries on the international stage, and building media businesses from scratch to highly successful levels.

Betty Lau, Director of Sales and Marketing, Shangri-La Hotel at the Shard, London

She has held Director of Sales and Marketing position with the Shangri-La Hotels since 1998, and has worked in Beijing, Wuhan and Shanghai, and for the past 3 years in their Corporate Head Office in Hong Kong, responsible for Special Projects. She received her Bachelor of Business – Hotel Management at Victoria University in Melbourne.

Sarah Walton-Smith, Marketing, Danone Advanced Medical Nutrition, Nutricia

Has worked in Marketing for Danone since 2009. Previous roles include Communications Director at the Institute for Complementary & Natural Medicine, Associate Director at Cohn & Wolfe and Senior Account Director at Galliard Healthcare Communications Ltd.

Andy Westlake, CEO, Fast Track

In the sponsorship business for over 22 years – nine years working with media owners and in the last 11 years as CEO of Fast Track, a company which he started. Fast Track is part of Chime Communications Plc, the international communications and sports marketing group. Prior to Fast Track, he spent four years at Mediaedge CIA as Managing Director of their sponsorship division and worked in sponsorship in commercial radio, at both Capital Radio and EMAP.
