Mandarin Consulting Hosts Another Inspirational Panel Discussion with the University of Manchester – How to Develop Yourself as a Global Elite
Tuesday, 26th March 2019. Mandarin Consulting was privileged to be invited by the University of Manchester to co-organise another inspirational panel discussion – How to Develop Yourself as a Global Elite. Nearly one hundred ambitious students received advice from four global leaders within the banking, financing services and consulting industries on how they could progress their careers to becoming future global elites.
The four panellists, who came from differing cultural and professional backgrounds, have all led very successful global careers and shared their experiences with the audience. Yao Song, Director at EY, M&A Tax provided valuable insights into what an international organisation such as EY, looks for when recruiting graduates to become future global elites. David Peckham, a Director at Mandarin Consulting and a previous Management Consultant at PwC, emphasised the quest and commitment of global companies to embrace diversity in the workplace. Alyssa Lai, a Mandarin Consulting alumnus, who joined RBS in 2018, elaborated on this, discussing her own experience of adapting to the cultural differences at the workplace. Patrick Reid, a long standing coach at Mandarin Consulting and Director at iSensa Ltd, advised the Chinese students on the key knowledge and skills required to get a job and launch a successful career as a future global elite.
The students were enthused by the positive and helpful career advice given by the panellists. A vibrant discussion ensued following the panel discussion, provoking some thoughtful and intriguing questions to conclude the event.
After the event, Alyssa Lai said she had appreciated the opportunity to exchange and share views with other professionals. She commented, “having been on the other side of the fence, I know how valuable this type of event can be and I am grateful to have the opportunity to give back to those who are going through the journey”.

Each of the speakers articulated impactful messages from different perspectives and backgrounds, which offered a well-rounded discussion based on a diverse range of experiences. There were so many good questions from the audience which really demonstrated that the discussion was effective in generating thinking amongst the crowd.
